Morocco is one of the richest countries in terms of traditional handmade crafts in the Arab world. It boasts many cities known as strongholds of these industries, such as Sla, Fez, and Marrakech. In these cities, people produce furniture, jewelry, clothing, and home decorations manually using traditional tools and equipment.
The number of workers in the Moroccan craft industry is around 2.4 million artisans, making it one of the significant employment sectors for Moroccan citizens. According to statistics, traditional crafts of a cultural nature make up 17% of the entire industrial sector, equating to 420,000 artisans.
Since 2007, the Moroccan government has paid significant attention to the traditional craft sector, believing it contributes effectively to the country’s economic development and helps preserve the national identity and heritage of the Kingdom of Morocco.
